Google Home responding with featured snippets

Yesterday, Google announced the debut of Google Home with Google Assistant, an Amazon Echo competitor with really awesome hands-free search. One of the neat and expected parts of Google Home is how it uses featured snippets, knowledge graph and structured data to answer your voice queries. Danny Sullivan was able to play with it in person, and he shared two videos of how Google Home answers more complex questions. The first question was “How do you get wine stains out of a rug?” Google Home responds, “According to Patch, Mix one-quarter teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with four cups of lukewarm water …” Here is the video snippet of this in action: Google Home will use Featured Snippets for answers. Google My Business testing advanced verification process for spammy map categories

Mike Blumenthal got word from Google that they are now testing what is called “advanced verification” in the San Diego region for the locksmiths and plumbers. This is aimed at those two industries specifically because they tend to see a lot of spam in the Google Maps and local results. In fact, the advanced verification is being outsourced to a third-party company named Pinkerton. Pinkerton is a security risk management company that verifies employees and companies before you do transactions with them. Google is asking locksmiths and plumbers in San Diego to go through this “advanced verification” process. They have until November 10 to respond and will hear back within two weeks if they pass the verification. If they do not pass or do not respond, Google will remove their listing. Mike Blumenthal said: The process is a lightweight version of the vetting that is done during the Home Services process that looks to verify the actual existence of the service Search Engine Land Source

Keywords and keyword variations should be used frequently on the page. Don’t get carried away, make sure the page is still comfortable for your visitors to read. – Keyword emphasis in page text — Use heading html tags and bold to tell the search engines what you think are the most important words on your page. – Keyword placement in page text — Be sure the first and last paragraphs on your page include your major keywords. – Alt tags — Search engines cannot read an image. Tell them what the picture is about. Images should be relevant to text. – Site maps and RSS Feeds. Small and relatively static sites with good navigation usually don’t need too much more for Google to find the pages. For bigger websites we recommend using site maps and Google webmaster tools.
