How Important is Source Code to Search Engine Optimization?

How Important is Source Code to Search Engine Optimization? Steve Wiideman, an SEO Expert in the Orange County, California area says source code plays an important role in a search engine optimization campaign. Mainly because the amount of code and content a web page contains impacts the LOAD TIME of the page, thus impacting the user experience (something Google definitely doesn’t want to happen). Learn what you can do to reduce the amount of source code on your website in this video by Search Engine Optimization Expert Steve Wiideman.

How to maintain content marketing focus in long-running SEO programs

A few weeks ago, I gave a presentation on a SEO-centric content marketing program that members of our team have been engaged in across a two-plus year run. The presentation outlined preparation and research, steps in execution, performance measurement, and communication to teams. Our goals have been aggressive, requiring a high level of organizational effort, analysis, and internal motivation to remain focused. Take note of the last goal we set out for the program: 250 content marketing assets. A mix of emotions ran across the audience member’s faces, ranging from disbelief to affirmation. While hopefully, I provided compelling steps and tactics for realizing success (we have exceeded all of these goals), it is the last component of that presentation that I wanted to focus on here. Ongoing communication is critical to maintaining a successful SEO-centric content marketing program (or any digital marketing program). It is even more important when an organization is entrenched in the day to day execution of tactics, and perhaps results have yet Search Engine Land Source

Help! I just launched a new website and my search rankings tanked!

Imagine this nightmare scenario: you’re on the verge of launching your newly redesigned website, and you’re already anticipating new leads and returning customers. You’ve spent countless hours working through every last detail before even considering unveiling your new creation to the world. The big day arrives, and you give the green light to launch. Suddenly, you realize you forgot to plan for one crucial element: the SEO best practices that you had so carefully incorporated into your old website. Unfortunately, this is not just a nightmare that can be forgotten once you’ve had your morning coffee, but something I’ve seen happen to countless small businesses over my 10 years as the owner of an SEO and online marketing agency. Your redesigned website was meant to give your business a new lease on life, but instead, you’ve destroyed your organic search rankings and traffic overnight. When you change your site without thoroughly thinking through the SEO implications, you might do something harmful like throw away Search Engine Land Source

Machine learning for large-scale SEM accounts

A key challenge when working on what we could term “large-scale” PPC accounts is efficiency. There will always be more that you could do if given an unlimited amount of time to build out and optimize an AdWords campaign; therefore, the trick is managing priorities and being efficient with your time. In this post, I will talk about how concepts from machine learning could potentially be applied to help with the efficiency part. I’ll use keyword categorization as an example. To paraphrase Steve Jobs, a computer is like “a bicycle for the mind.” The generally understood meaning of this statement is that, in the same way a bike can increase the efficiency of human-powered locomotion, computers can increase human mental productivity and output. With the existentialism out of the way, let’s get to something tangible — we’ll explore here how relevant/valuable it could be to try and automate the process of placing new keyphrases into an existing campaign. What do we mean by machine learning? As Search Engine Land Source

SMX Advanced recap: Using Paid Search & Social Together to Deliver the Ultimate Knockout Punch

As always, SMX was chock full of new ideas and actionable content. One of the struggles that many media teams face is the disconnect between the digital strategies that one team owns versus the strategies being implemented by teams that are responsible for other digital media types. This particular session brought together leaders in paid search and paid social to provide insight into: Proven ways to bridge the knowledge gap between teams. Building a cohesive strategy. Working in tandem to deliver results. Maggie Malek, Head of PR & Social at MMI Agency Malek kicked off the session noting that ad blockers are on the rise and that the key to getting around ad blockers is to put people before efficiency. What the heck is going on with Google Keyword Planner?

First there were the error notices that users have to have an active campaign, not just an AdWords account to access Keyword Planner. Then came combined search volumes for close variants. A Google spokesperson has confirmed with Search Engine Land that users do not have to have an active campaign to use Keyword Planner. On social media, Google told users that the error was the result of a technical issue that was being fixed. When Keyword Planner launched inside AdWords in 2013, replacing the open Keyword Tool, it got a cool reception. So there was alarm when some users got the error message telling them they’d also have to have an active AdWords campaign to use it. The error didn’t affect all accounts; still it got people speculating whether it just a glitch or Google backtracking. Either way, for now at least we can move on. So, to close variants and the resulting combined search volume results. Google isn’t commenting the move; we asked. Close variants grouping is not necessarily Search Engine Land Source
